"Race Bait Reality Check" - By Mark Alexander - Thursday, July 22, 2010

Some things are best said by others! See below!

Lenny Vasbinder

http://patriotpost.us/alexander/2010/07/22/race-bait-reality-check/print/

"We have seen the mere distinction of color made in the most enlightened period of time, a ground of the most oppressive dominion ever exercised by man over man." --James Madison

You know things are going well when your political opponents resort to the lowest form of Demo-goguery -- race baiting.

Barack Obama has portrayed Tea Party Patriots [1] as a gang of malcontents "waving their little teabags." Such undignified characterizations notwithstanding, Obama and his Leftist cadres are clearly concerned that an enlightened grassroots movement to restore Rule of Law will undermine their Socialist agenda.

Last week, Obama surrogates at the National Association to Agitate Colored People (NAACP) took over the effort to stir that pot. The NAACP calculus is simple: If they can coerce the Tea Party into defending itself against spurious charges of racism, they distract the movement from focusing on the abject failure of Barack Obama's policies.

NAACP president Ben Jealous warned, "The danger of the Tea Party is that people see them and think about periods in history when groups like them were much more powerful than they are now, and so a lot of what we spend energy doing is explaining to people what reality is, and that the reality is that the majority from 2008 still exists. ... What we take issue with is the Tea Party's continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements. The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no place for racism and anti-Semitism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry in their movement."

Jealous and his hooligans went on to officially condemn the movement as "a threat to the pursuit of human rights, justice and equality for all" because of its "the racist elements."

Perhaps by "racist elements," Jealous was alluding to the fact that almost 25 percent of Tea Party participants are racial minorities? Of course not.

Vernon Parker, an Arizona Tea Party congressional candidate who is a black, offered this rejoinder: "The NAACP should be concerned about bringing jobs to people in depressed areas. Not the Tea Party."

South Carolina conservative congressional candidate Tim Scott, who is also a black, added, "I believe that the NAACP is making a grave mistake in stereotyping a diverse group of Americans who care deeply about their country and who contribute their time, energy and resources to make a difference."

Ward Connerly, founder of the American Civil Rights Institute, concludes, "[R]ace is the engine that drives the political Left. In the courtrooms, on college campuses, and, most especially, in our politics, race is a central theme. Where it does not naturally rise to the surface, there are those who will manufacture and amplify it. Such is the case with the claims that the 'Tea Partiers' are a bunch of racists... I am convinced beyond any doubt that all of this is part of the strategic plan being implemented by the Left in its current campaign to remake America."

Not to be outdone by the NAACP, that erstwhile protagonist of race-baiting mischief, the "Reverend" Al Sharpton, claimed, "The Tea Party, as a political philosophy, is to reverse what civil rights did and that is saying the federal government must protect people. There clearly are some racial leaves in their tea bag, but this is not just about race. It is about how you see government."

Sharpton, who has retained his official media celeb race-card status despite having fabricated the notorious Tawana Brawley rape hoax, is now treated with the same admiration as the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson, he of the Jew-baiting "Hymies" and "Hymietown" comments.

But perhaps the most influential purveyor of this sort of racism is the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who recently emerged from hiding to assert that Tea Party opposition to Obama's agenda [2] is based on their hatred for "people of color."

Why is Wright the most influential of the race hustlers? He was Obama's religious mentor [3], an inexorable and unapologetic propagator of afrocentric liberation theology and its message of black supremacist doctrine and "social gospel" Marxism.

Wright officiated at Obama's wedding, baptized his daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope." In that book, Obama describes Wright as the "vessel carrying the story of a people into future generations and into a larger world."

What story did that "vessel" teach Obama?

In Wright's own words, "The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government gives [black people] drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strikes law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, g-d d--- America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. G-d d--- America for treating our citizens as less than human. G-d d---- America for as long as she acts like she is god and she is supreme."

Wright calls America "the US-KKK-A" and says the nation is "controlled by and run by rich white people. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in god. And. And-and! God! Has got! To be sick! Of this sh-t!"

In an ridiculous attempt to compare Obama to Jesus, Wright said, "Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people."

Recall how Obama responded to video evidence [4] of his mentor's black supremacist rants: "It sounds like he was trying to be provocative. ... This is somebody who I have known for 20 years [who] led me to Christ. He is a biblical scholar. He is a well-regarded preacher and somebody who is known for talking about the social gospel. ... [Wright is] like family to me."

The racist Reverend Wright has also been a featured speaker at NAACP events, spouting the same messages as has fellow racist Islamist cleric Louis Farrakhan. So before Ben Jealous lectures Tea Party Patriots about their "continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements," he ought to pay more attention to his own organization.

Of course, Leftmedia types propagate accusations of racism by Obama's race-card cutouts. According to political science professor Jim Campbell from the State University of New York, "[M]edia have been successful in [playing the race card]. You have people now talking about the tea party and others in terms of this race issue, and that in itself deflects from what the tea party people are really concerned about, which is out-of-control federal spending and excessive intrusion of government. To the extent that the press, even by suggesting that race is an issue, if it gets everybody talking about the tea party in those terms, they have been successful."

For the record, racism is thriving in some American sub-cultures and movements, but the Tea Party is not one of them.

I also make a larger point -- that the Democrat Party [5] has thoroughly institutionalized racial segregation by co-opting black America as one of its most loyal constituencies. Indeed, an unprecedented 93 percent of black voters, like so many lemmings, march in lockstep to their Democrat masters.

But, in the rhetorical style of Jesse Jackson, the message of race they embrace is a disgrace. The Democrats have replaced the chains of chattel slavery with the chains of welfare and entitlement slavery.

From the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. proclaimed, "I have a dream that my children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." However, Leftists race-based policies such as "Affirmative Action" are precisely designed to judge by the color of their skin rather than the content of their character.

In 2008, Martin Luther King III declared, "race relations clearly will be advanced ... because of President-elect Obama."

Unfortunately, he was probably referring to "advancement" in the NAACP sense. And if so, he was correct.

What Percentage Of the Gulf Of Mexico Has The BP Oil Spill Contaminated?

Updated:
July 17, 2010 - with info from CNBC.com
July 31, 2010 - with info from RushLimbaugh.com, based on Time.com article with other statistics

------------

According to the EPA's official site, http://www.epa.gov/gmpo/about/facts.html#location, which says, "... The mean (average) water depth of the Gulf is ~1,615 m and the basin contains a volume of 2,434,000 cubic kilometers of water (6.43 * 10^17 or 643 quadrillion gallons)....", or 643 followed by 15 zeros.

So the est. 90-180 million gallons (90-180 followed by 6 zeros) of oil that would have flowed into the Gulf from the BP spill, less the 25%-50% that they've skimmed/collected, means that the spill has contaminated the Gulf at around 0.000000015% to 0.00000003% of the total Gulf water volume... or as one analyst said, "One-millionth of an ounce in a bathtub full of water".  Another compared it to "10 drops in an Olympic sized swimming pool."  CNBC.com said, "it's like a can of beer in a domed stadium".

Yes... it's still bad and needs to be cleaned up but don't let the tree-hugging, environmentalist wackos... like Obama's supporters and many so-called reporters in the LSM (Lame Stream Media)... try to make it worse than it really is. Out of tens of thousands of wells drilled in the Gulf in the past 60 years, this is the first major accident in American waters and the last major accident in Mexican waters was over 40 years ago.

Look at my blogs about the 1979 Ixtoc spill that was around the same volume of oil as the BP spill and most folks don't even remember that spill as it cleaned up nearly 100% within a couple of years and that was without all of the technological advances and skimming capabilities that we have today.

And... besides all of man's capabilities, God knew we would cause accidents from time to time so He created oil-eating bacteria that are also attacking the oil spill on a "Natural" front.

7/31/2010 Update:
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_072910/content/01125109.guest.html

"...Well, the next paragraph begins this way. Well, the obnoxious and anti-environmentalist Rush has a point. The Deepwater explosion was an awful tragedy for the 11 workers who died on the rig, and it's no leak; it's the biggest oil spill in U.S. history. It's also inflicting serious economic and psychological damage on coastal communities. ... Yes, the spill killed birds -- but so far, less than 1% of the birds killed by the Exxon Valdez. Yes, we've heard horror stories about oiled dolphins -- but, so far, wildlife response teams have collected only three visibly oiled carcasses of any mammals. Yes, the spill prompted harsh restrictions on fishing and shrimping, but so far, the region's fish and shrimp have tested clean, and the restrictions are gradually being lifted. And, yes, scientists have warned that the oil could accelerate the destruction of Louisiana's disintegrating coastal marshes ... but, so far, shorelines assessment teams have only found about 350 acres of oiled marshes, when Louisiana was already losing about 15,000 acres of wetlands every year." So it's convoluted piece, ladies and gentlemen, but does point out that the obnoxious and anti-environmentalist Rush Limbaugh has a point, that it's all been exaggerated..."

NOTE AND CORRECTION:

When I first wrote this blog on July 14, 2010, I had the percentage range as 0.015% to 0.03% (mainly due to a math typo where my calculator wouldn't allow so many zeros and I forgot to add the extra six zeros back into the percentages), but on July 17, 2010, CNBC.com posted a slide show which included their own calculations which showed 184 million gallons as being ".00000002788%" so I'll presume, at this time, that my calculations were wrong and I had things much worse than they actually are... presuming that CNBC.com is correct. I will continue to look for other calculations to see if I was correct, CNBC.com was correct or if the figure is somewhere in the middle. I have now double checked my math and I have corrected the original post above to reflect the corrected numbers.

Here's the link to the CNBC.com slide so you can see how they use Cowboy Stadium and a 24 oz. can of beer for comparison purposes. http://www.cnbc.com/id/38294088/What_Does_184_Million_Gallons_of_Oil_Look_Like?slide=9  I found out about this link when reading the July 22, 2010 edition of the http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/ daily e-newsletter.

Have you discovered ObamaCare's ugly surprises? Take the quiz now!
http://www.policypatriots.org/obamacarequiz/

Dear Leonard,

Because you opposed ObamaCare, you signed the Free Our Health Care Now petition from the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) last year to oppose its passage.

With more than 1,367,900 signers, it was the largest online policy petition ever delivered to Capitol Hill!

Now as part of the effort to repeal and reform ObamaCare, the NCPA is conducting a National ObamaCare Quiz so you can test your knowledge about what's in the law!

Take the quiz now. http://www.policypatriots.org/obamacarequiz/

But be warned: The answers may raise your blood pressure! ObamaCare is bigger, badder, and uglier than you probably ever imagined. How bad is it, really? Find out here.

Obama Seeks To Make Offshore Drilling Off-Limits... AGAIN!!! by: IER

I just got the following email from the Institute for Energy Research (IER) and thought I would pass it along!

Happy Independence Day!!! And hopefully American can achieve energy independence one day... if we can get a President that wants energy independence instead of just talking about it!!!

Subject: Obama Seeks to Make Offshore Off-Limits

Dear Supporter of American Energy:

The Good News

We have some good and bad news to report. First the good news: an eminent federal judge recently rebuked the Administration and their attempt to halt all new energy development offshore. In the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, President Obama put a moratorium on all deepwater energy exploration. One would think a decision of this magnitude—one bound to put tens-of-thousands of jobs at risk, further increase our use of foreign energy sources and the cost of all petroleum products and cripple an already struggling region—would have been based on sound expert advice.

Think again—it was based on politics, and politics at its worst. Last week, a federal judge in Louisiana issued a sharp rebuke of the Obama Administration and overturned this policy because the Administration failed to justify its plan.

The Bad News

Even though an offshore moratorium will destroy jobs, the Obama Administration has announced plans to reinstate the ban on new offshore energy development. And in practice, it is affecting both shallow and deepwater drilling. We all want BP to stop the oil spill and quickly clean up the Gulf, but there is no justification to essentially ban all new energy offshore.

Soros-Funded Center for American Progress Calling the Shots in D.C.

It is also interesting to note just who is calling the shots on the spill response and cleanup. If you watch cable TV and read the newspapers, you would think Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen is the top guy on this case. And he is—to an extent. In a very short, and grossly underreported, story published recently, The Wall Street Journal reported that the George Soros (the guy who started MoveOn.Org) funded Center for American Progress is behind the Obama Administration’s energy policy and spill response. This is scary:

“If you want to see where President Barack Obama’s response to the Deepwater Horizon disaster is heading, try following the urgings of the Center for American Progress.

“The liberal think tank with close White House ties appears to have more influence on spill policy than the president’s in-house advisers…”

Why Obama’s Blanket Moratorium in the Gulf is a Mistake

With the “politics” now covered, you may find yourself saying, or hear a friend say, “We need to stop drilling until we find out what happened with the BP spill.” I can understand why you may be thinking this, but allow me to briefly explain why imposing a blanket moratorium on all drilling is a bad idea.

1. There have been over 4,000 oil and natural gas wells drilled in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. We have had one tragic accident – which is one too many. But we don’t ground all airplanes after an accident or stop all medical procedures after a patient dies on the operating table.

2. Every deepwater drilling rig was inspected following the tragic accident on April 20, 2010. Each rig operating in the deepwater passed this safety inspection.

3. A panel of experts, including engineers from the National Academy of Engineering, recommended that the President cease issuing new permits in the deepwater temporarily, not ban existing deepwater operations. As they said , "However, we do not agree with the six month blanket moratorium on floating drilling. A moratorium was added after the final review and was never agreed to by the contributors."

4. We produce 1/3 of our domestic oil from the Gulf of Mexico. Stopping new exploration will have untold effects on energy availability and prices down the road. While the Administration has stated its goal is to make energy more expensive, this plan simply stunts economic growth.

5. According to the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association, this politically motivated decision could cost up to 40,000 men and women to lose their job.

6. The U.S. stands to lose its deepwater drilling fleet to other parts of the world for much longer than the six months’ time.

There is no doubt that the Deepwater Horizon spill is a tragedy on every level. But to further hamstring an area of the country that relies on oil and gas production for political gain—as the President has done—makes absolutely zero sense . . . unless the intention is to make energy more scarce and more expensive.

As we celebrate Independence Day this weekend, it’s important to remember what the Founders fought for—freedom—freedom to control their lives instead of being controlled by an out-of-touch, out-of-control, and overbearing government. Washington, D.C. is growing out-of-touch and out-of-control and we need to fight back.

Happy Independence Day!

Tom Pyle

"Can Microbes Save The Gulf Beaches"... And My Comments On That Blog

While doing all of my reading and Googling and Googling and reading... and more particularly, while looking for pictures for my previous blog with photos and videos of the 1979 Ixtoc oil spill, I came across this blog and started commenting... and if I have to say so myself, some very GOOD comments! ;-) I am re-posting ONLY my comments below but you can read the referenced blog and all other comments here...

What is that a picture of? It’s not any beaches down here in LA, MS, AL or FL. It kind of looks like the beaches of the 1979 Ixtoc spill but the flags flying on the lifeguard stands are NOT Mexican flags so I wonder where that pic is from… and why it’s on a thread about the BP Oil Spill… it’s really a seriously bad misrepresentation.

Here’s my 12+ blogs so far about the BP Oil Spill…

Ann,

I agree with you about Obama sitting on his hands doing nothing when he should have accepted foreign help on the third day, when it was offered.. instead of waiting two months to accept foreign help. He also did nothing about mobilizing the 2,000+ American skimmers, instead leaving us with a few dozen skimmers to handle the spill. He also stood in the way of all of our attempts to block the oil from getting into our LA marshes and coastline and still blocks our attempts today.

Now, as far as the 1979 Ixtoc spill in Mexico, it actually lasted for 10 months and they weren't able to cap the leaking well until after they drilled two relief wells… which is why BP is also drilling the two relief wells. I just wanted to clarify that for you.

BUT… we’ve come a long way in skimming capabilities since 1979 but still needed all 2,000 or at least a large majority of them down here from day one. One FL Senator said that Obama’s excuse that those other areas might need their skimmers in the event of an accident is analogous to not bringing in surrounding fire engines to fight a BIG fire because a fire might happen in one of those surrounding areas. Same with ambulances that come from all over when there’s a major plane or train accident. It’s asinine how Obama is handling this accident and the BP spill will be to Obama what the hostages were to Jimmy Carter… showing just how inept they both are and were.

I agree with all of your third paragraph.

Obama Wimp,

You should be blaming Obama. What happened to BP was an accident… although the steps leading up to the accident were due to BP and MMS (Mineral Management Services... a federal bureaucracy) approving every step of what BP was doing (See my Timeline Blog).

What Obama is doing.. or rather NOT doing is intentional! He will go down in history as the reason for any major environmental damage to the LA marshes and coastline to those who want to know the truth.

P-1. Mostly agreed. NOT all businesses are inspected MANY times at MANY phases of their work product… and if they are being inspected by a government agency that isn’t doing it’s job or is telling the business that it’s OK to skip those safety steps, then the burden shifts from the business to the government agency that is approving the *new* rules.

P-2. The difference is that Obama IS the president since January 2009 and Democrats have controlled both halls of Congress since 2006… so they have to OWN responsibility for ALL of this regulatory SNAFU’s and cleanup mess. Further, just like the Democrats and many honest Republicans (I live down here in New Orleans burbs) blamed George Bush when FEMA was slow to react to Katrina (although much of the delay blame also lies with our then Democrat Governor Blanco), Obama and the Democrats are to be BLAMED for the MUCH SLOWER response to the post-accident clean-up fiasco. The accident, whether it could have been prevented or not, will always be the fault of BP with corresponding fault on MMS for approving all of the waivers and permits… but the two-month delay in moving the necessary assets down into the Gulf to clean up the oil before it got to shore is ALL Obama’s fault.

P-3. Yes, BP and many other corporations and individuals support various politicians as part of their “free speech”, which I agree with, and while these donations might get doors opened or access to a politician that the rest of us may not have, this doesn’t mean that politicians should commit illegal acts, disregard laws and regulations, etc., just because someone gave a donation.

P-4. I wouldn’t turn my back but I wouldn’t commit crimes or disregard rules/regulations… or if I did, I would then expect that I would be held responsible if my actions contributed to negligence that resulted in an accident… which is what MMS did. BUT Obama’s failure to act has nothing to do with the waivers and permits… but instead because he was in bed with BP (Obama was BP’s biggest recipient of donations in the past 20 years… more than Bush or McCain), he listened to them instead of Governors and others down here on the front lines so Obama’s various agencies followed their *leader* and refused to listen to the Governors (maybe because all of the Governors are Red-State Governors???) and his inaction have resulted in this spill being much more of an environmental issue than it needed to be. If Obama would have accepted foreign assistance from day three and also mobilized hundreds, if not thousands of skimmers from around America, the oil could have been sucked up way out in the Gulf before it had a chance to spread out so much and eventually make landfall into the marshes. The beaches are relatively easy to clean up but the marshes are a much larger problem.

P-5. I hate to burst your bubble and all of the other people’s bubbles that think that “BP should have to pay all of the costs”. Yes, BP will be paying all of the costs up front, but just like any other cost of doing business, whether it’s political contributions or taxes or fines or lawsuit judgments, etc…. it’s the consumer who ultimately pays all of these expenses. And with Oil being publicly traded in a world market, it’s NOT just BP’s customers who will pay. For example, lets say that all of the costs related to this spill causes BP to have to charge $5.00 a barrel more for their product. Do you really think the rest of the thousands of oil companies around the world are going to charge $5.00 less? NOPE… they’re going to charge whatever the market will bear. It’s the nature of any company or product available on the open and free markets. And don’t say, “Well, we should regulate their prices!”, as government regulation of prices has ALWAYS resulted in even higher prices to the consumer. The same thing happens for every government fee, fine, tax, etc… it’s the customers who pay these, not the corporation since ALL costs of doing business are factored into the price of the product or service that business produces.

How do you figure we have a smaller government today than in the 70′s? Just look at the budget growth in the past 40 years. In inflation adjusted dollars, federal spending has climbed by 242% since 1970 whereas individual income has only grown by 29%. http://www.heritage.org/BudgetChartbook/growth-federal-spending

Federal spending per household in 1970 was under $15K whereas today, in inflation adjusted dollars, it’s over $30K and CLIMBING FAST!
http://www.heritage.org/budgetchartbook/federal-spending-per-household

Yes, you can find charts and graphs showing the total number of federal employees has not grown proportionately but that is only because there are companies with hundreds of thousands of employees that are virtual government agencies so the feds have merely contracted out much of the work but if those employees are being paid for with federal dollars, IMO, they’re the same as federal employees.

I don’t agree with your conclusion that “It’s all within the law”. Unfortunately, the fox is guarding the hen house in many of these issues so prosecutions will never occur. Look at Treasury Scty. tax-cheat Tim Geitner, Congress members Charlie Rangle, Chris Dodd, etc… and a host of Republicans as well.. who were allowed to serve out their terms or quietly retire without being prosecuted. I seriously doubt that Holder will investigate MMS, etc. for their violation of their duties in this accident… but they’ll go after BP because so many people are ignorant to the facts about the pathetic permitting, inspection, waivers and pathetic response to the post-accident cleanup.

Actually, Bush did listen to Blanco. He had to under the Constitution and State’s rights… and more particularly, Posse Comitatus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act

Bush could NOT send federal troops into LA until Blanco asked for them. MS and AL got federal troops right away while Blanco tried to hang on to her power-grab and wanting to stay in control rather than relinquishing control over the the military. She refused to allow federal troops for at least a week after Katrina.

On Sept. 1, 2005, “The Bush administration sent Governor Blanco a proposed legal memorandum asking her to request a federal takeover of the evacuation of New Orleans. Louisiana officials eventually rejected the request after talks throughout the night, concerned that such a move would be comparable to a federal declaration of martial law.” (from Wikipedia timeline http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Hurricane_Katrina)

I don’t recall the exact date but Lt. Gen’l. Russell Honore’s name doesn’t show up in the Wikipedia timeline until September 9th, 2005 and he is the one that took over things for the U.S. Military and finally brought things back into control down here.

Because of this issue that led to so many delays during Katrina, new laws were passed in 2006-2007, “… The National Guard is an exception, since unless federalized, they are under the control of state governors.[11] This was changed briefly: Public Law 109-364, or the “John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007″ (H.R.5122), was signed by President Bush on October 17, 2006, and allowed the President to declare a “public emergency” and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_law#United_States_of_America

I do NOT necessarily agree with State’s rights being trampled on like that but it seems like so many other American’s don’t seem to mind. I do… just like with Obamacare’s mandated insurance purchase. Fortunately, my state is one of the 20+ that have filed suit against this illegal mandate.

Blanco screwed things up so badly with Katrina that she didn’t even run for re-election because LA people knew just how pathetic she was…. now, if only Obama had that kind of integrity! ;-)

Ooops.. I forgot to try and explain the “market” but I doubt I could explain it here anyhow.

In simple terms, the “market” is based on supply and demand and also what people are willing to pay for a certain product or service. In the case of BP, if their costs/expenses related to this spill results in them having to charge more than the competition in order to still make money, then all that will happen is the competition will likely raise their own prices to just below BP’s price. Competition is what leads to lower prices for consumers.

I disagree with your presumption that there are only a few giant companies controlling everything. Yes, there are a few giant companies but the commodities market is what determines the price of a barrel of oil, not the companies themselves. OPEC certainly is a BIG factor in determining pricing when they restrict production or increase production as that affects supply and demand and the price that the other oil producing companies can charge in the market. There are hundreds of IOC’s (International Oil Companies) and thousands of NOC’s (National Oil Companies) and then there are dozens, if not hundreds of countries that OWN all oil production in their respective countries… for examply, PEMEX in Mexico and PDVSA in Venezuela. MANY other countries, large and small, own ALL production in their respective countries.

All of these countries and groups of countries control the price of oil FAR MORE than the half dozen BIG oil companies and hundreds and/or thousands of smaller oil companies.

Oops… I reversed my numbers for the NOC’s and IOC’s and then due to snipping a section of my reply, didn’t clearly identify that NOC’s are “National(ized) Oil Companies” meaning they are mostly “state owned” or owned by their respective countries.

These Wiki’s put things back in perspective.

Once again, it’s not an oligopoly since there are hundreds, if not thousands of oil producing companies, either IOC’s or NOC’s.

As far as the Big 6 controlling 62% of the US retail market, this simply isn’t true either… since the overwhelming majority of the actual gas stations are independently owned and/or franchises and they actually set the retail price based on their own local market conditions. When I was in my early 20′s I managed a local gas station / convenience store and I would drive around every morning and late afternoon checking the competitions prices and go up or down on my prices accordingly since the station’s business plan called for keeping our prices lower than all of the nearby competition. Often, we might sell our gas at cost or just a penny a gallon mark-up in order to keep our “lowest price” policy in effect. While the station was signed as one of the BIG companies back then, we were an independent and could buy our gas from any of the distributors down here in Southern Louisiana, for which there were many distributors, so whichever one gave us the best pricing when we needed a new delivery, that’s who we went with for the most part. Since we were signed as one of the BIG companies, we did have to buy gasoline that had to meet minimum standards but other than that, we were free to buy our gas from either the “signed” distributor or any of the other distributors. I can only hope and pray that government authorized monopolies or oligopolies like utilities (electric, gas, cable, etc.) were open to real competition. It’s slowly happening with telephone service due to wireless carriers but for wired service, it’s still very limited which is why the prices are still so high… and why wired service is losing business more and more to wireless companies. I haven’t had wired phone service in more than a decade, although I do have a Skype phone number and a MagicJack phone number so I guess those are technically wired services since they go through the internet.

50% of a market between six companies does NOT constitute a monopoly or oligopoly… since the other 50% is controlled by dozens, if not hundreds of companies.

I’m not sure what you mean by your last paragraph. You’re still not getting the reality that U.S. oil prices are the same as any other oil prices around the world depending on the world market price for oil at any given time. Since Venezuela is a dictatorship and has a Nationalized Oil Company, I also do not get how you can compare the U.S. with them… oh wait… maybe since Obama wants to socialize Amerika and become it’s first dictator, that’s why you’re making that comparison.

I explained in my earlier reply, a moment ago, that “gasoline price wars” are usually determined by the local gas stations, not by the BIG 6.

Industry consolidation happens for various reasons, usually due to bad economic times within that industry. Most of the BIG OIL companies that merged did so when times were very tough for them so they consolidated their resources, laid off thousands of employees to get lean and mean again and now they’re enjoying record profits, while still having the same profit margin of only a few pennies per gallon of gasoline. I can only hope and pray that the federal gov’t. would consolidate instead of expanding… and that states that are in trouble should consolidate instead of expand as well.. unfortunately, government ALWAYS grows regardless of whether times are good or bad… which just makes things so much worse for those of us who are forced to support these bloated bureaucracies. Of course, it’s why I went into my own business while in my 20′s so I could start avoiding some of the confiscatory taxes… yes, that means I’m a tax cheat like Obama’s Treasury Secretary, Tim Geithner! LOL

P-1 & 2 – Well, if retailers make agreements with certain distributors, that is their right as the business owner… just like it’s your right to make agreements with your bank, credit card companies, landlord, insurance company, etc. There will always be new start ups or other companies with more competitive business plans who will come in and start up and either have a better product or lower price to draw customers away from the existing stores. At one time, McDonald's and Burger King had the fast food hamburger market pretty well locked up, then along came Wendy’s, Rally’s, Jack-in-the-Box, etc. Same with other large grocery chains that have come and gone… and down here, one of the biggest chains is NOT a national chain but a local chain that started up out in the boonies of LA, a small city called Houma, down in Bayou or “Coonass” Country and as the big stores would close up stores, Rouses would take them over and now have dozens of stores in the metro New Orleans area. I shop either them or the WalMart SuperCenter… which ever has the lowest prices for what I want/need.

P-3 – You can’t compare *retail* prices between countries since there are often many layers of fees and taxes added on to the retail price and most consumers have no clue just how HIGH they are. The price per barrel is nearly the same world wide although some countries and companies will play the commodities market and hedge their buying power if they think prices will be changing. Southwest Airlines does this to try and keep the lowest prices on jet fuel. You can’t use Venezuela as a comparison for anything since that country is run by a whacko dictator and the oil company is subsidized by the *State* to lower their retail costs… just like the whacko gives away heating oil to some Americans every winter as a way of trying to make himself look good. Anyone that buys into a dictator being good is just as whacko as the dictator himself. These A-HOLES that wear Chavez and Gueverra (Che’) clothing are complete idiots and should be deported to the communist country they believe in… but then they’re allowed their freedom of speech in America so we can’t do it. I’d love to see one of them wear a Bush t-shirt in one of those communist countries and see what prison they end up in. They’re pathetic!!!

P-4 – As a small business owner, I completely disagree with your thought process in this paragraph. Your anti-business or big business leanings come out way too much in your thougt processes in this paragraph. This is AMERICA… where anyone can become as successful as they choose to be!!! God Bless America on this 4th of July… the day, 234 years ago, when we decided to become a GREAT country.. that hudreds of thousands… possibly millions of foreigners risk their lives to come to every year. Unfortunately, we can’t handle all of them so we have to send many back. I don’t see that happening with any other country in the world, unless a neighborhing country is being overrun so their masses flee and become refugees in neighboring countries.

P-5 – Once again, I disagree 100% with your anti-business, pro-big goverment thought process. It sounds like you should be fleeing to a communist country… and make room for one more LEGAL immigrant who will come to America, start up their own little business and work hard to grow it into a BIG business one day. It happens to thousand of Americans and LEGAL immigrants every year. You should strive to grab a piece of the American dream instead of letting the LSM and Obama turn you into a socialist. As far as you thoughts that cancer has increased… it’s the ability to detect cancer that has increased. In the old days, people died of “consumption” or some other generic term when they didn’t really know what killed somebody. Autopsies didn’t really become commonplace until 17th-18th century… and even then, they didn’t understand everything they saw. “Hippocrates believed that the body was composed of four fluids: blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. He believed that an excess of black bile in any given site in the body caused cancer. This was the general thought of the cause of cancer for the next 1400 years. In ancient Egypt, it was believed cancer was caused by the Gods.”

P-6 – Businesses ARE OWNED by people and should have every right to speak, lobby, communicate, etc., with politicians as any other person. Why should a socialist citizen who wants the goverment to give them cradle to grave welfare and pays very little in taxes have more of a voice than an independent person who has their own business and pays the bulk of the taxes that run our goverment? That’s just a mindset I could never agree with… and I’m in pretty good company since the Supreme Court also ruled the same way recently… but now the socialist democrats in Congress are trying to block the Supreme Court ruling with new anti-business, anti-tea party patriots, pro-BIG union (which is just another form of business) legislation that will allow unions to donate money and run commercials but put a damper on businesses and tea party groups from doing the same. Hopefully, the Supreme Court will rule against this new legistlation as well… of course, if the socialist Kagan gets on the bench, we know she won’t vote in favor of REAL freedom of speech.

Gulf Oil Tracker By PBS News Hour

While I'm certainly not much of a fan of PBS, due to their leftist-leaning reporting that is paid for, in part, by taxpayer dollars, I did like their little oil spill widget tht they call the PBS NewsHour Gulf Oil Tracker... so here it is!

Sorry.... after testing this widget, I noticed that Internet Explorer was using up a LOT of system resources whenever a page with the widget was being viewed on two of my computers so the widget was a real resource HOG. If you really want to see it, you can go to http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/horizon-oil-spill.html.

Sorry for wasting your time with this blog.

Pictures And Videos Of The 1979 Ixtoc 1 Gulf Of Mexico Oil Spill

Thanks for reading my blog and following my blog and Youtube Channels. Please consider using my Amazon Store link for your Amazon shopping. I earn a very small commission from Amazon and it doesn't cost you anything extra.  https://amzn.to/3cYkMcU
=====================

The below pictures and videos are related to the June 03, 1979 Ixtoc Oil Spill in the Bay Of Campeche / Gulf Of Mexico, off the Mexican coast which flowed unabated for nearly 10 months and dumped an estimated 140-150 million gallons of oil into the Gulf Of Mexico. If they don't figure out a way to cap the BP spill, it could surpass the 1979 spill. The good news is that we have much more skimmer capability compared to 1979 and the spill was further out in the Gulf from shore so the dispersants and skimmers have more time to deal with the oil. A large percentage of the BP oil is being skimmed up but...

Unfortunately, Barack Hussein Obama has handled things pathetically BAD and did not accept foreign help from countries with much more skimmer capacity nor did he mobilize the 2,000+ skimmers in America so the oil has been hitting landfall in Louisiana and tar balls have started washing up on other State's beaches. Most, if not all of this could have been avoided if BHO would have acted more quickly, accepted foreign help on day three when it was offered and allowed Gov. Jindal of Louisiana to build the sand berms like he wanted to do just a week or so after the accident. Two months later and BHO's administration is still putting up roadblocks to the sand berms so the marshes and wetlands are getting more and more heavy oil pollution.

Obama's Big Oil Spill Bungle - by Dick Morris

I just got in the below email from Dick Morris, a former Bill Clinton advisor, strategist and pollster, who agrees with me and many others about Obama and his administration really screwing up things concerning the BP Oil Spill.

The BIG QUESTION is whether Obama is doing it on purpose or is just inept. Obama's possible reasons for doing it on purpose would be to further his socialist agenda to shut down and possibly take over the oil industry... don't laugh, it happend with the little dictator in Venezuela... and also to satisfy his left-wing base with their so-called "green energy" concepts since Obama is using this accident to perpetuate so-called "green energy" concepts as well.

If they succeed... and if Obama gets re-elected, America will become a third world country in the next ten years.

I pray that Obama fails!

And I also pray that Republicans and Conservatives take over the House and/or Senate in November 2010 so Obama does not succeed in destroying America as we know it.

OBAMA'S BIG OIL SPILL BUNGLE

It's one thing to say that Obama's administration showed ineptitude and mismanagement in its handling of the Gulf oil spill. It is quite another to grasp the situation up close, as I did during a recent visit to Alabama.

According to state disaster relief officials, Alabama conceived a plan -- early on -- to erect huge booms offshore to shield the approximately 200 miles of the state's coastline from oil. Rather than install the relatively light and shallow booms in use elsewhere, the state (with assistance from the Coast Guard) canvassed the world and located enough huge, heavy booms -- some weighing tons and seven meters high -- to guard their coast.

But...no sooner were the booms in place than the Coast Guard, perhaps under pressure from the public comments of James Carville, uprooted them and moved them to guard the Louisiana coastline instead.

So Alabama decided on a backup plan. It would buy snare booms to catch the oil as it began to wash up on the beaches.

But...the Fish and Wildlife Administration vetoed the plan, saying it would endanger sea turtles that nest on the beaches.

So Alabama -- ever resourceful -- decided to hire 400 workers to patrol the beaches in person, scooping up oil that had washed ashore.

But...OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) refused to allow them to work more than 20 minutes out of every hour and required an hourlong break after 40 minutes of work, so the cleanup proceeded at a very slow pace.

The short answer is that every agency -- each with its own particular bureaucratic agenda -- was able to veto each aspect of any plan to fight the spill, with the unintended consequence that nothing stopped the oil from destroying hundreds of miles of wetlands, habitats, beaches, fisheries and recreational facilities.

Where was the president? Why did he not intervene in these and countless other bureaucratic controversies to force a focus on the oil, not on the turtles and other incidental concerns?

According to Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, the administration's "lack of ability has become transparent" in its handling of the oil spill. He notes that one stellar exception has been Obama aide Valerie Jarrett, without whom, he says, nothing whatever would have gotten done.

Eventually, the state stopped listening to federal agencies and just has gone ahead and given funds directly to the local folks fighting the spill rather than paying attention to the directives of the Unified Command. Apparently, there is a world of difference between the competence of the Coast Guard and the superb and efficient regular Navy and military.

Now the greatest crisis of all looms on the horizon as hurricanes sweep into the Gulf. Should one hit offshore, it will destroy all the booms that have been placed to stop the oil from reaching shore. And there are no more booms anywhere in the world, according to Alabama disaster relief officials. "There is no more inventory of booms anywhere on earth," one told me in despair.

The political impact of this incompetence has only just begun to be felt. While administration operatives are flying high after a week in which the president's ratings rebounded to 49 percent, per Rasmussen, after his firing of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the oil is still gushing and the situation is about to worsen.

The obvious fact is that Obama has no executive experience, nor do any of his top advisers. Without a clear mandate from the top, needed efforts to salvage the situation are repeatedly stymied by well-meaning bureaucrats strictly following the letter of their agency policy and federal law. The result, ironically, of their determined efforts to protect the environment
has been the greatest environmental disaster in history. But some turtles are OK!

Timeline: BP Oil Spill WAS ALL OBAMA'S FAULT... Bush-Cheney Had Nothing To Do With It... The Timeline Proves It!!!

Almost since the beginning of the BP Oil Spill accident, Obama, his administration and their lackeys have been blaming Bush-Cheney and Big Oil for this potential disaster. Here's my first blog that I wrote on May 27, 2010, after hearing Obama blame Bush-Cheney yet again!!! http://lennyvasbinder.blogspot.com/2010/05/obama-tries-to-blame-president-bush.html

I've been Googling and reading and reading and Googling for several weeks and finally started finding some halfway reliable information as to the facts and timeline about the BP Oil Spill, aka Deepwater Horizon Accident, aka Macanado Well Accident.

Once I started finding some reliable sources and then Googling them for more info, I found that Wikipedia was working on a "Timeline Of The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill" article as well as the main article, "Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill" . I just spent about a half hour making edits to the main article to include some of the timeline data since the main article did not show any timeline information and of course, the bleeding heart liberals and LSM (Lame Stream Media) are constantly trying to blame this accident on President Bush and V.P. Cheney but the FACTS are that this entire operation and accident all started, happened and continues under Obama's administration.

Here's a quick timeline...

1979-1980 - Ixtoc 1 well in Mexican waters of the Gulf Of Mexico spills for 10 months and an estimated 150 million gallons of heavy black crude oil.  Since the well was close to shore, the oil coated the entire shoreline of the Mexican Gulf Coast and 160 miles of Texas Gulf Coast.  See photos and videos here - http://lennyvasbinder.blogspot.com/2010/07/pictures-and-videos-of-1979-ixtoc-1.html

1980-2010 - FORTY YEARS with no major accidents in the Gulf Of Mexico... even after tens of thousands of wells have been drilled.

1995 - "... In 1995, President Clinton signed the Outer Continental Shelf Deepwater Royalty Relief Act which exempted oil wells drilled deep in the Gulf from the normal royalty payments they would normally have owed the government for their oil. Usually, these payments amount to between 12% and 16% of their revenues, so exemption from this requirement did a great deal to catalyze drilling in deep waters in the Gulf of Mexico. As a result of the Administration action, deepwater oil production in the Gulf increased rapidly, growing from 42 million barrels annually in 1996 to 348 million in 2004... The Deepwater Horizon [rig] was one of those catalyzed by the Clinton legislation and began drilling in 2001..." - http://www.dickmorris.com/blog/2010/06/10/clinton-catalyzed-gulf-oil-drilling-boom/

2007 - 2008 - "...BP and its employees have given more than $3.5 million to federal candidates over the past 20 years, with the largest chunk of their money going to Obama..." - http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0510/36783.html

2007 - 2008 - "...The oil and gas giant is a major campaign contributor, giving more than $6 million to federal candidates over the past 20 years. President Obama has received the most - $77,051 — which might seem surprising at first blush. But presidential candidates receive a lot more than everybody else, and most major donors, including energy companies, spread their donations between Republicans and Democrats. So it's not shocking that Obama's among the very top recipients, although I would've expected McCain or Bush to have received more...." - http://www.good.is/post/bp-s-donations-to-congress-more-worrying-than-its-donations-to-obama/

February 2009 - BP files 52 page plan for Macanado exploratory well with MMS... waiting until after Obama was in office, even though they acquired the drilling rights to the area in March 2008. Were they waiting for Obama to take office in January 2009 because they knew he was already bought and paid for... or is this just a coincidence???

April 6 - The Department of the Interior exempted BP's Gulf of Mexico drilling operation from a detailed environmental impact study after concluding that a massive oil spill was unlikely. (Wikipedia Timeline)

October 2009 - Drilling commences on the Macanado exploratory well, using the TransOcean Marianas drilling rig since the Deepwater Horizon was being used on another project at the time. A late season hurricane damages the TransOcean Marianas in November.

January 27, 2010 - Obama reiterates openess to drilling... well he should since he's been taking all their money and his people in MMS have been approving all of the plans.

February 15, 2010 - Deepwater Horizon drilling rig takes over drilling of the Macanado exploratory well. (http://www.gizmodo.com/ interactive timeline)

March 31, 2010 - Obama proposes MORE offshore drilling... thank God!!! (http://www.gizmodo.com/ interactive timeline)

April 01, 2010 - Deepwater Horizon passes inspection. (http://www.gizmodo.com/ interactive timeline)

"April 6, 2010 - MMS issues permit to BP for the well with the notation, "Exercise caution while drilling due to indications of shallow gas and possible water flow." (Wikipedia Timeline)

"April 9 - BP drills last section with the wellbore 18,360 feet (5,600 m) below sea level but the last 1,192 feet (363 m) need casing. Halliburton recommends liner/tieback casing that will provide 4 redundant barriers to flow. BP chooses to do a single liner with fewer barriers that is faster to install and cheaper ($7 to $10 million)." (Wikipedia Timeline)

"April 15 - MMS approves amended permit for BP to use a single liner with fewer (safety) barriers." (Wikipedia Timeline)

April 17, 2010 - Deepwater Horizon finishes drilling. (http://www.gizmodo.com/ interactive timeline)

April 20, 2010 - Explosion occurs.... and the rest is history.... and remember that at all stages of the planning, drilling, accident and cleanup, Obama was the President and his people were in charge... or rather NOT in charge.

April 24-25, 2010 - Robots find well is leaking and fail to shut down flow with blowout preventer. Leak estimated at 42,000 gallons per day.

April 25, 2010 - Jun 14, 2010 - Obama turns down offer of skimmers and other assistance from foreign countries... a total of 21 offers from 17 different countries were turned down. At the same time, more than 2,000 American skimmers were NOT mobilized either and most of them are still sitting idle on the east and west coasts and other major waterways. Obama's excuse is that "What if there is an accident in one of those areas?" but that would be like a Fire Department NOT sending fire engines from different stations to put out a major fire and use the excuse that there might be a fire in one of those other areas. A COMPLETELY ASININE EXCUSE.... FROM A COMPLETELY ASININE PRESIDENT!!!

April 29, 2010 - LA Governor Bobby Jindal declares State Of Emergency.

May 02, 2010 - Obama finally visits Louisiana coastline 13 days after explosion and NINE days after oil leak is discovered.

June 29, 2010 - OVER TWO MONTHS LATER, Obama finally accepts partial help from less than half... 12 out of 30 of the countries that have offered clean-up help. No excuse given for turning down help from 17 countries. http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/US-Gulf-Oil-Spill/2010/06/29/id/363429

June 29, 2010 - Dick Morris basically agrees with me and writes, "Obama's Big Oil Spill Bungle" http://lennyvasbinder.blogspot.com/2010/06/obamas-big-oil-spill-bungle-by-dick.html

July 12, 2010 - BP replaces old cap with a new cap that is expected to contain ALL of the oil leak into this new cap which will then be pumped up to at least four surface tankers. Let's pray that this works!

July 25, 2010 - So far, so good!

July 27, 2010 - The boat crews, planes and helicopters are having trouble finding any oil to clean up so now the left-wing wacko so-called scientists are claiming that the oil is not floating to the surface and that it's hanging around in large plumes hundreds of feet under the surface.  The problem is they can't prove this and they refuse to admit that maybe, just maybe, since the 90 million to 180 million gallons of oil that possibly spilled into the gulf is just 0.000000015% to 0.00000003% of the total water volume of the Gulf of Mexico, it's less than a ten drops in an Olympic sized swimming pool or less than a can of beer in a domed stadium... so maybe, just maybe, that's why it's so hard to find!  DUH!!!!

I've written about and used the Internet Archives Wayback Machine many times in the many forums from hobby to computer tech forums that I participate in on a regular basis but I've been seeing MORE and MORE websites shutting down in the past two years so I wanted to write this short article to inform people of how the Internet Archive Wayback Machine (IAWM) works so you can find information from any of your favorite websites that have gone away.

There's a couple of ways to get to the IAWM.

http://archive.org/ - The home page for the Internet Archives, then on that page, right near the top middle, you'll see a section about the Wayback Machine, where you can enter a URL (website address aka a link) into the field and click Enter or click the "Take Me Back" button and it will bring you to a page of dated links for every snapshot that the Wayback Machine has concerning that website URL.

The other ways to get directly to the IAWM page is:

http://www.archive.org/web/web.php  or the advanced search page, http://web.archive.org/collections/web/advanced.html.

Here's how it works...

I use to publish articles on a free Yahoo website called GeoCities but Yahoo decided to close down GeoCities in 2009 so folks no longer have access to their web pages unless they know about the Wayback Machine.

Here was one of my original GeoCities links (which no longer work)...

http://www.GeoCities.com/LennyVasbinderPI/Politics_Start

Of course, clicking that link brings you to a page saying the site no longer exists.

Now, if you go to the IAWM and copy/paste or type that URL into the blank field and click "Take Me Back", it will bring you to this page, http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.GeoCities.com/LennyVasbinderPI/Politics_Start, where you will see a series of dated links where the Internet Archives Wayback Machine took snapshots of my web page between 2002 and 2006, which would have been the last time I updated that site since I started using Blogger Blogspot's to post my blogs/articles since then.

Other websites that have been archived include many of the articles on MSN Groups when Microsoft decided to close them down in 2008.

For my fish keeping hobby, at least three LONG-TIME very good websites have shut down in the past two years, http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/, http://www.plecofanatics.com/ and http://www.plantgeek.net/ but most, if not all of their articles and many of their forum threads are preserved on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

I never did use AOL (aka AOHell to many) but I know that AOL shut down millions of web pages in their "home town" section, at least I think that is what it was called, and many AOL members complained viciously when they lost all of their web pages, online photo albums (which reminds me that Yahoo shut down Yahoo Photo Albums a few years ago when they bought out Flickr.com), etc... so hopefully, any of those folks that thought they lost everything might be able to find some of their data and/or pictures using the Wayback Machine.

All that said, some websites prevent search engines from crawling their pages and for those websites, the IAWM may have also been blocked from crawling the website which means all data may be lost forever in those cases.

I'll probably be adding to this article from time to time so check back... or if you have any questions, please feel free to leave a "Comment" below (click the Comments link at the bottom of this article, if the Comments box isn't already open).

Update to: The Graph Says It All... Blog On June 7th 2010

See http://lennyvasbinder.blogspot.com/2010/06/graph-says-it-all-bp-oil-spill-compared.html, with lots of new info, links to other updated blogs and most importantly, a link to video footage and eye-witness video statements of people who saw the 1979 Ixtoc spill to show just how much worse it was compared to the BP spill.

The Gulf Of Mexico will survive this spill... but will America survive Obama and the socialist acts he and his cronies in Congress are passing on us???

Hey Republicans... No More Empty Promises, Repeal ObamaCare Today!

It has come to my attention that some inside-the-beltway pundits, strategists and operatives are telling opponents of ObamaCare that they stand a better chance of victory in November if they simply TALK about repealing ObamaCare, but avoid any substantive attempts to ACTUALLY REPEAL IT. Nothing could be further from the truth. Repealing ObamaCare should not be reduced to a campaign slogan. The American people want real action and will only give their respect to those elected officials who take active and substantive steps... right here and right now... to ACTUALLY REPEAL OBAMACARE.

As Congressman Steve King recently put it: “We cannot have a country that lives in freedom and have Obamacare. They are not compatible.”

To that end, I urge you to support H.R. 4903, sponsored by Representative Michelle Bachmann and 57 co-sponsors in the House, which will repeal ObamaCare in its entirety. Furthermore, I also urge you to support S. 3502 and S. 3501, sponsored by Senator Orrin Hatch in the Senate, which will repeal the most egregious and constitutionally-suspect provisions of ObamaCare – the individual mandate and employer mandate. It’s time for less talk and more action. These three pieces of legislation should be brought to a vote immediately. And if they fail, they should be brought up again and again… before the election, not after, as some are suggesting!

Sincerely,

Leonard Vasbinder

Express Outrage at President Obama's Plans to Abuse Executive Powers to Grant 12-18 Million Illegal Aliens Amnesty!

Stand Against Amnesty!

Sign The Petition Against President Obama's Plan to Take Authority Over Immigration Away from Congress!

It is disappointing that you are even considering abusing various executive procedures to amnesty the 12-18 million illegal aliens living in the United States. Whom exactly do you represent?

This decision would take policy making out of the hands of Congress in clear violation of the Constitution. Recent amnesty proposals have failed in Congress because amnesty does not have the support of the American people. Attempting to sneak an amnesty through without a vote in Congress will continue to erode the American public's confidence in the Executive Branch.

I urge you to abandon your plans to place lawbreakers above average Americans and legal immigrants. Any executive processes used to amnesty illegal aliens would bring disgrace to our nation, undermine our Constitution, and harm America's unemployed and underemployed.

Only Congress Should Decide Immigration Laws!

--------------------

And I add...

ONLY CONGRESS SHOULD DECIDE IMMIGRATION LAWS that are CONSTITUTIONAL and agreed upon by WE THE PEOPLE whom they are supposed to be representing... something they haven't been doing much of lately!!!

"How the Government Slowed Down the Gulf Cleanup" by Ernest Istook

While I rarely copy/paste someone else's material in it's entirety, I think EVERYONE should read this ENTIRE article so I'm having to break my rule today! Please either read the article below or click on this link to read it on NewsMax... and while at NewsMax, subscribe for their FREE News Alerts near the top right corner.

This is just further PROOF that OBAMA is using Rahm "Dead Fish" Emanuel's Chicago-style politics of "Never let a disaster go to waste!" in furthering Obama's liberal-socialist agenda and the left's anti-Oil mindset... all so Obama can further tax-and-spend us into bankruptcy while persuing unproven "green energy" concepts.

How the Government Slowed Down the Gulf Cleanup
Tuesday, 22 Jun 2010 03:31 PM
by: Ernest Istook

Our own government has quietly admitted that America needs foreign help to handle the oil spill — almost two months after pushing that help away.

Far more oil could have been intercepted before it fouled the Gulf Coast. So why hasn’t our government apologized?

By refusing foreign assistance, we banned both the latest technology and cleanup vessels that far exceed the capacity of America’s oil spill response vessels (OSRVs). We rejected ships with 10 times the capability of the vessels we used instead.

In a quiet announcement on June 18, the Federal On-Scene Coordinator (FOSC) finally agreed that we need help, describing a conclusion reached two days before:

“. . . the FOSC, in coordination with other federal agencies, determined on June 16, 2010, pursuant to 46 U.S.C. §55113, that there are an insufficient number of specialized oil skimming vessels in the U.S. to keep pace with the unprecedented levels of oil discharges in the Gulf of Mexico. Based upon this determination, foreign specialized skimming vessels may be deployed to response operations.”

Technically, the Jones Act remains unwaived and continues to restrict use of foreign vessels other than OSRV’s. Officials invoked only a limited exemption that was put into law after Hurricane Katrina.

By their delay, our bureaucracy and government regulation have made a horrible situation even worse. There were two weeks between the April 20 explosion on the Deepwater Horizon and the time when the first oil made landfall. And it was almost six additional weeks before specialized equipment from overseas was approved by our government for limited use.

The Dutch formally offered help on April 25. Not until June 14 did the U.S. State Department announce that some foreign help would be welcomed from the 17 nations who had been trying to assist.

We violated a basic rule of oil spills: “The key to avoiding catastrophic damage and extreme liability is a fast response.”

So what’s different about the foreign equipment that at long last is being deployed? Capacity, for one. They can do far more and do it more quickly.

To protect the North Sea — a major petroleum-producing area — Europe created cooperatives such as Norway’s Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies (NOFO), assembling resources that far surpass America’s.

The largest American OSRV I’ve found has only a 4,000-barrel capacity. Compare that to Norway’s new cleanup standards, which state, “An active effort must always be made to achieve the largest possible tank capacity. Under no circumstances must the tank capacity for storage of recovered oil be less than 1,500 m³.” 1,500 cubic meters is 9,400 barrels. None of our U.S. oil recovery vessels appear to come even close to this standard.

The European Union maintains a multi-faceted inventory of OSRVs. The Netherlands alone lists 11 ships that exceed this 9,400-barrel capacity, including vessels like the Geopotes 14 that reportedly can pick up and contain 47,000 barrels at a time. That’s 10 times larger than any U.S. ship we’ve been using.

Collecting more oil in each run enables more time spent collecting oil and less time carrying oil back to a storage facility.

There’s another problem with how U.S. regulations are slowing down the cleanup. The Dutch are now providing skimmers that can be attached to American vessels. But because most of what’s skimmed is unavoidably water, not oil, they complain that America’s EPA standards won’t let them put back the water. Thus their tanks fill up with a mixture that is mostly water.

That mix is a serious problem. The Incident Commander, Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, told the media on June 11, “We have skimmed, to date, about 18 million gallons of oily water — the oil has to be decanted from that [and] our yield is usually somewhere around 10 percent or 15 percent on that.”

That means 85 percent to 90 percent of what is collected is water, not oil. If complaints are correct, then unless vessels can separate these at sea and discharge the water, most of what they haul back to a storage facility is water. That means six or seven trips to carry one full load of skimmed oil. Complaints are that our EPA says discharged water from the skimming cannot exceed 15 ppm (parts per million) of oil.

Radio Netherlands reported:

“The Americans don’t have spill response vessels with skimmers because their environment regulations do not allow it. With the Dutch method, seawater is sucked up with the oil by the skimmer. The oil is stored in the tanker and the superfluous water is pumped overboard. But the water does contain some oil residue, and that is too much according to U.S. environment regulations.

“Wierd Koops [head of the Dutch consortium, Spill Response Group Holland] thinks the U.S. approach is nonsense, because otherwise you would have to store the surplus seawater in the tanks as well.

“[Says Koops], “We say no, you have to get as much oil as possible into the storage tanks and as little water as possible. So we pump the water, which contains drops of oil, back overboard.”

“U.S. regulations are contradictory, Mr. Koops stresses. Pumping water back into the sea with oil residue is not allowed.”

He is not alone in criticizing America’s restrictions on the cleanup efforts. Several Democrats in Congress have joined the calls to get our bureaucracy out of the way.

Rep. Corinne Brown, D-Fla., said at a hearing, "We are in emergency mode; we need skimmers . . . There are small boats, I guess, but we need the big ones. I understand they are available in other countries."

We indeed need the big cleanup ships that America must get from overseas. Who knows how many livelihoods — and how much of the environment — would have been spared if our government had not drug its bureaucratic feet and invited them two months ago?

BP has apologized. And still must be held accountable. But where’s the apology from our government — and the accountability?
